Wedding FAQs

Each wedding is unique. We are delighted to discuss your requirements and assist you in making your special event a memorable occasion. The following basic guidelines should be considered when planning a wedding at Stirling Castle.

When is payment due?

For a ceremony only 50% is payable on confirmation and the balance is due eight weeks before your wedding.

What about catering?

All catering is provided by our contracted caterers.

Do we have exclusive use of the venue?

Yes, Stirling Castle is available outwith visitor hours only and is booked on an exclusive basis.

Why are there maximum capacities at each venue?

This is to meet health and safety regulations. The total number of guests includes everyone in attendance - bridal party, minister, musicians and guests and must not be exceeded.

Who sets up the room for my wedding ceremony?

Our events staff do the preparation. Your event manager will advise on the best times for florists, wedding cake, band and others to be there.

Is smoking permitted?

Smoking is not allowed in any of the historical apartments but is permitted in the external courtyards of the Castle.

Is confetti allowed?

We are unable to allow confetti, biodegradable products or rose petals. Some couples have loved using bubbles instead.

Is there a resident minister?

No, but our event manager can advise on local ministers.

Are civil ceremonies possible?

The castle does not have a civil wedding license but humanist ceremonies are possible.
